A new Vietnamese restaurant blossoms in Canberra

A blossom branch mural carved into a brick wall is a striking feature of the new My Friend Vietnamese Restaurant in the Canberra suburb of Watson.

Having opened in mid May, the restaurant’s design and fitout was managed by Liam Robertson of DNA Architects.

“Our brief was to design and project manage the fitout including advising on colours, lighting, signage, furniture and equipment,” said Liam. “The restaurant is located in an existing suburban shopping centre and our goal was to give it a fresh look and feel.”

With clear ideas about what was needed, Liam searched on the internet for the restaurant furniture and equipment he was looking for. His search led him to two suppliers, one of which was Caféideas.

“I visited Caféideas in Sydney and straight away I could see they had everything we needed at better prices than the competitor’s,” said Liam. “I was very impressed with Caféideas’ display room and the range of products they have. There were particular red bentwood chairs we wanted and they had them in stock, along with most other items on our list.”

As is often the case in fitout projects, DNA had a short timeframe to work with.

“We needed the equipment and furniture to be on site within two weeks of ordering it,” said Liam. “Rachel from Caféideas was very helpful. The nature of the project meant we needed to make several adjustments to the order on the run, and she was able to respond with updated quotes really quickly, even on a Saturday.”

For My Friend Vietnamese Restaurant, Liam ordered chairs, table tops, table bases, an under counter fridge, two half door upright freezers, a stainless steel top freezer, four half door upright fridges, a two door bar cooler and wall shelves.

“We’re really happy with how the project has turned out,” said Liam. “Caféideas made the process of ordering equipment and furniture really easy and had the goods on site when needed. I’d also like to mention Andrew Mills from Bellevue Building who did a great job of getting the building works done in a really tight timeframe.”

My Friend Vietnamese Restaurant is located at Watson Shopping Centre, Watson Place, Watson. It is open seven days for lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm, and for dinner from 4.30pm to 9.30pm.
