Bondi Wholefoods

A healthy addition to the local community

So eager were the locals for Bondi Wholefoods to open that many stuck their head in the door while the fitout was still taking place to ask if they could come in and buy something.

And since opening officially on 13 November, the locals have beaten a steady path to the sunny corner cafe and wholefoods store in North Bondi.

“The response has been amazing,” said owner Suzanne Wood. “We’ve been really busy from day one and people keep saying to us that they couldn’t wait for us to open.”

Suzanne is passionate about the importance of good nutrition. “My philosophy is that if you look after your diet and give your body healthy fuel, good things will follow,” she said. “We only stock produce that’s 100% organic and if I can’t get exactly what I want, then we’ll go without.”

Bondi Wholefoods stocks organic and pasture raised meats, Papanui open range eggs and a wide range of organic fruit, vegetables, teas, spices, coffee and dairy products.

“By offering a cafe and a wholefoods store, we’ve created a real destination for people,” said Suzanne. “There’s nothing else like this close by and the locals have really embraced it.”

A child-friendly courtyard with pint sized tables and chairs makes it a welcome place for families to shop and enjoy a coffee. Dogs are not overlooked either and Suzanne has a soft spot for the four-legged friends waiting outside for their owners. “When I order our pasture raised meats, I also order some bones for the dogs so they get to enjoy organic treats too,” she laughed.

Suzanne came to know Cafeideas when buying equipment for her first cafe in Sydney’s Surry Hills. “When it came to buying equipment for Bondi Wholefoods, it was a much bigger project and so naturally I shopped around,” she said. “I was looking for good prices, but what I got from Cafeideas was great prices. No-one else could match Cafeideas, particularly on their packages and VIP pricing.”

Suzanne has mainly dealt with Damien from Cafeideas’ in organising her purchases. “Damien understands what it’s like for business owners,” she said. “Our goods have arrived on time and he’s been proactive about going to bat for me in dealing with the equipment suppliers. I’ve really appreciated that.”

For Bondi Wholefoods, Suzanne bought a cake and food display, cool room, custom bench, display freezer, under bench fridge, under bench freezer, microwave oven, grill, juice extractor, blender, dishwasher, toaster and cafe stools.

“Opening a store like this has been something I’ve wanted to do for some time,” said Suzanne. “I’m delighted that the local community seems happy that we’re here too.”
