Cafe Bella Dee brings a little bit of Paris to Sans Souci
With a suburb name that means ‘no worries' in French, it is entirely appropriate that Sans Souci's latest cafe is the perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Cafe Bella Dee has quickly become a local favourite, with customers enjoying delicious all-day breakfasts, lunches, coffee and tea at sunny outdoor tables or in the elegant Parisian-inspired interior.
“We knew the look we were aiming for right from the start,” said co-owner Stella Lascaris. “We wanted to create a French Provincial feel and we've received lots of compliments from our customers who love the cafe's fresh design and layout.”
Stella, a former accountant, along with her brother Dimitri (who was previously a hairdresser), had a longtime dream to open a cafe together. When a disused corner store near their home became available, the pair quickly seized the chance to bring their dream to life.
“We had a few months to plan and get organised while our application went through council,” Stella reported. “I spent a lot of time searching the internet for the types of equipment, furniture and fittings we needed.”
Stella's search took her to the Cafeideas website where she found many of the items she was looking for. “One of our main challenges was that the kitchen area is very small,” she said. “Damien from Cafeideas was able to source commercial-grade kitchen equipment including fridges, bench top equipment, a cook top and oven that were smaller in scale than usual and which fit perfectly in our space.”
Stella reports that the kitchen staff have been very happy with the equipment they are working with. “And by being able to obtain ready-made equipment that was correctly proportioned, we were able to avoid the added expense of having equipment custom-made.”
“I would definitely recommend Cafeideas to others,” she said. “I shopped around and their prices were excellent in comparison with others. Their advice and customer service were really helpful and our order was ready for us when we needed it.”
Cafe Bella Dee's Facebook fan page indicates a strong following since the cafe opened in July. Dimitri's skills as barista are much appreciated with one customer remarking, “…the coffee is to die for”.
The cafe is named after the nicknames given to Stella (‘Stella Bella') and Dimitri (‘Dee') by their family when they were younger.
“Dimitri and I grew up with a love of great food and it's been fantastic to launch our cafe together,” said Stella. “We're both really enjoying it and it's been wonderful to receive the amazing feedback and support we've had from our customers.”
Cafe Bella Dee is open seven days a week from 7am to 4pm on weekdays and 8pm to 5pm on weekends. Serving modern cafe food and beverages, it is located at 36 Tuffy Avenue, Sans Souci.
