Bathurst’s new sweet spot

The citizens of Bathurst are in for a treat with the arrival of Sweet Caramel on their doorstep from mid April. Owner and head chef Marisa Bonucci is Le Cordon Bleu trained and has a talent for all manner of cooking styles, but particularly for French patisserie.

"We’ll be baking fresh croissants and gateaux to serve with a full range of coffee and refreshments,” said Marisa. “While we’ve been getting ready to open, we’ve been testing the ovens and coffee machine we bought from Cafeideas and they’re each performing really well.”

Marisa and her sister Pom will be hard at work early each morning baking and cooking meals for Sweet Caramel.

“Our menu includes fusion style meals for lunch and dinner,” said Marisa. “We’ll be offering dishes such as gourmet beef burgers with a French-style cheese sauce, mornays, pan fried fish with a white wine sauce, beef massaman and crispy noodle dishes to name just a few.”

Marisa was recommended to Cafeideas by a friend who had recently opened a takeaway food business in Sydney.

“I travelled to Sydney to visit Cafeideas’ showroom,” said Marisa. “I was very impressed with their range and the convenience of it being a one-stop shop for everything you need to set up a cafe or restaurant.”

For Sweet Caramel, Marisa purchased a dough sheeter, service cart, double deck oven eight burner gas oven, microwave, dishwasher, glasswasher, gas chargrill, under bar chillers, upright fridge and freezer, display chiller, chest freezer, fryer, salamander, cutter/mixer, food display cabinet, planetary mixer, ice machine, cash register, coffee machine, grinder, blender and shelving.

“Cafeideas put together a discounted price for me based on the size of my order,” said Marisa. “I was pleased with the price we paid and I think they offer good value for money.”

Located at 185 George Street – a main street in Bathurst’s CBD – Sweet Caramel will open six days from Tuesday to Sunday inclusive. From Tuesday to Saturday opening hours are 10am to 9pm, and on Sunday from 10am until 3pm.

“I think the locals will really like what we’re offering here,” said Marisa. “There’s nothing else like it in Bathurst and we’re looking forward to showing off our great tasting cakes, pastries, lunch and dinner dishes, all made freshly on the premises.”
